Reclaim Academy’s occupied land in Baramulla: AMK

Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) has expressed deep concern over the illegal occupation of a piece of land in Baramulla meant for construction of sub-office of Cultural Academy.

In a press statement today, AMK said that after several years of sustained efforts, the government agreed to open a sub-office of Cultural Academy in Baramulla, and land was also allotted for this purpose in Azad Gunj locality. But since sometime the land has been illegally occupied and turned into a Taxi Stand by Sumo drivers. The locals say that though some conscientious citizens had informed the local administration about the issue, but no action has been taken so far.

AMK has appealed the higher authorities to immediately look into the matter and reclaim the land from illegal occupation. “If authorities don’t act immediately, this land may be usurped by land mafia,” warned AMK president Dr Aziz Hajni. He said that it was after strenuous efforts of AMK for many years that government took steps for establishing sub-office in several areas outside capital cities of the state and even land has been purchased for this purpose for such an office in Baramulla. “But the lackadaisical approach of the authorities is doing serious damage to this important mission,” he lamented.

AMK said that at a time when government claims to be sensitive about promotion and preservation of art, culture and literature in the state, the Baramulla land-grabbing episode belies those claims. AMK has appealed the government to reclaim the land in Baramulla and also start construction for sub-office as soon as possible.
