End of a poetic era as Ahsan passes away

Bndipora:It was an end of a poetic era as noted poet and literary activist, Muhammad Ahsan Ahsan, breathed his last here on Wednesday. He was the founder member of state’s largest literary organization Adbi Markaz Kamraz (AMK) and died after a brief illness.
Muhammad Ahsan was referred to Srinagar hospital after he complained of chest pain, where he died. Ahsan, 86, is survived by his wife and a son.
He was closely associated with the linguistic movement led by Adbi Markaz Kamraaz (AMK) and worked with literary organization since its inception. Ahsan advocated the protection of Kashmiri language and culture and remained always uncompromising. He was a teacher and later joined JKAACL as a research officer.
As a president of Halqi Adab Hajin he contributed his expertise to groom the young poets and scholars. He was also a member of Idara-i-Awqaaf Hajin and patron of Hajini Memorial public school.
One among the architects of Adbi Markaz Kamraz J&K and a staunch champion of linguistic movement, he was longest-serving member of AMK’s general council.
Groomed by renowned scholar Prof Mahiudin Hajni , Ahsan came into limelight at 50 years of age when he became editor of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages (JKAACL). He was an inspiring teacher who not only contributed to education but has many poetic works to his credit.
President AMK, Dr Syed Shujaat Bukhari, in his condolence message, sent from the US said that the death of Muhammad Ahsan Ahsan is an irreparable loss to the ongoing literary movement led by AMK.
“We have lost a guide, patron and experienced member in his death. It is an irreparable loss,” Shujaat Bukhari said.
Bukhari added that AMK had a long-standing relationship with Ahsan, and his demise is a loss not only to AMK but to the literary community of the state as well. “My deepest condolences to Ahsan’s family. We will stand by his family always,” he said.
“To me, it is a personal loss as we lost a prolific writer, researcher, and organizer. As the treasurer he was the strength of AMK and his unflinching commitment to the cause of Kashmiri language is something will not only miss but also cherish,” Bukhari said in his message.
General Secretary AMK, Amin Bhat, while condoling the demise said Ahsan was a senior most literary figure who is known for his contribution to Kashmiri linguistic movement. “We have lost a literary leader. It is an end of an era,” he said.
Secreteray JKAACL Dr. Aziz Hajini while condoling the demise of Muhammad Ahsan Ahsan said that poetry and work culture was an integral part of his personality.
“His works and attitude are all dynamic and could not be categorized under a single signature style. Each varied from the other. They reflected his experiences collected through frequent journeying that was a pastime of his liking ,’’he said.
“Although his field of work did not revolve around a particular topic, he was a man of good and courageous heart.’’
President Literary Forum Bandipora Mubashir Nazki also condoled the death of Muhammad Ahsan. Ahasan’s funeral prayers will be held at Hajin and charum on September 16 at his residence in Hajin.
Muhammad Ahsan became secretary finance of state’s largest literary organization and held the position until the end of his literary life. He played a pivotal part in the popularizing the linguistic movement initiated by AMK for the protection of Kashmiri language and Culture.
As a senior general council member, Muhammad Ahsan utilized his expertise to develop the organizational setup and used to take great pride in leading his fellow activists. He used to respect them, help them build up their reputations, forgive them their faults and shortcomings, and stand behind them through thick and thin, said his close associates. “He had a childlike enthusiasm on various issues and this quality of his was catching,” says Shakir Shafi general secretary Halq-i-Adab Sonawari. Among other who paid tributes to Late Muhammad Ahsan include Presdient Rafi Abad Adbi Markaz Shabir Ahmed Shabir, Poet Shahnaz Rashid, Former DG Doordarshan Dr. Rafique Masoodi, Patron Kashmir Philosophical Foundation Sufi Showket, Mansoor Muntazir, G R Najar and other literary activists.
