AMK to hold annual “Kashir Conference” in Poonch

Focus to unite Kashmiri litterateurs, Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) has decided to hold this year’s annual “Kashir Conference” in Poonch , focus of which is to unite the poets and writers of Kashmiri language, spread all across the country. The 33rd two-day conference will begin on June 23.

The decision was taken today in the Executive Committee meeting held in Kanispora Baramulla. The meeting was attended by AMK president Dr Aziz Hajni, General Secretary Dr Shujaat Bukhari, Prof Mashal Sultanpuri, G M Gamgeen and Abdul Khaliq Shams besides other members of the Executive.

The meeting observed that in order to take AMK’s campaign of “Language Movement” in all parts of the state, this year’s  annual “Kashmir Conference” will be organised in Poonch, as the Pir Panchal region has a rich literary and cultural history. The main focus of this year’s annual conference is to unite all the poets and writers of Kashmiri language, residing in different states, to provide them a platform to deliberate upon the issues of their mother tongue.  It also aims to draw the line of action to give impetus to its efforts for promotion and preservation of Kashmiri language. “AMK is committed to take along all the regions of the state for the cause of Kashmiri language and literature; after holding annul conference in Kashtwar in 2010, this year’s annual conference in Poonch is reiteration of our commitment,” said Dr Shujaat Bukhari.

The meeting decided to bring out the latest issue of AMK’s annual journal “Prav” as “Rasheed Nazki number.”

The meeting expressed anguish over the lackadaisical approach of the government in introducing Kashmiri as a compulsory subject in 9th and 10th classes.  AMK resolved to carry on its efforts for achieving this goal.

Saying that the Cultural Academy being headless has hampered the literary and cultural activities in the state, AMK president Dr Aziz Hajni offered to withdraw his candidature if it paves way for selecting the head of the Academy. “If I am the reason of delay in appointing Secretary of the Academy, then I am ready to withdraw my candidature,” he said.

Meanwhile, AMK is going to hold a book release function in the “Ibni Khaldoon Auditorium” of Kashmir University on April 4, in which poetic collection of Shahida Shabnum “Vachukh Vath” will be released by the Vice Chancellor of the University.
