AMK Elections: Hajini, Bukhari Re-elected as Prez, Gen. Secy

SOPORE JUNE 5: Prominent writer and poet Aziz Hajini and noted journalist Syed Shujaat Bukhari were re-elected as President and General Secretary of Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK), Kashmir’s oldest and biggest cultural and literary organisation.

Atiqa Banoo and Rafeeq Masoodi were elected, as Vice Presidents without any contest so were Mohammad Ahsan Ahsan, ZAmir Ansari and Majid Majazi as the Treasurer, Secretary and Librarian respectively. However, for the post of Media Secretary young journalist Parvez Majid was elected in a tough contest.

They were elected for a term of three years for which elections were held today under the supervision of  Justice (retd) Bashir Ahmad Kirmani. In a keenly contested election, Dr Hajini defeated his rival Mohammad Yousuf Mashhoor by a margin of 54 votes and interestingly Dr Bukhari won the election as general secretary by defeating his rival Farooq Rafiabadi with the same number of votes.

For the post of Media Secretary Parvez Majid won by a narrow margin of one vote defeating his rival Khurshid Qureshi. The executive of AMK will be constituted soon so will be the Advisory Board.

Complimenting the AMK for upholding the democratic siprit, Justice Kirmani said that a lot more needs to be done further strengthen it. He said that AMK should work for updating the important aspects of history of Kashmiri language and literature. He also suggested that corpus fund should be created for needy poets and writers for which he offered Rs 10,000.

Distinguished poet and writer Rasheed Nazki who s the lifelong patron in chief of AMK said that the organization had gone a long way in accomplishing its mission. He congratulated the new team and exhorted that all the members who are affliated with AMK through its 20 constituent organisations should work with zeal and zest.
