” Rich tributes paid to Janbaz Kishtwari, “ “He connected Kashmir to Kishtwar with his art”
Kishtwar, June 26: The 31st Annual Conference of Adbi Markaz Kamraz commenced here on Saturday with rich tributes to famous poet and singer Ghulam Nabi Dolwal popularly known as Janbaz Kishtwari.
The first session of the two-day conference attended by galaxy of poets and scholars from across the state was dedicated to Janbaz Kishtwari with noted poets and writers reading papers on his life and times. Former Head, Department of Urdu, Kashmir University, Prof Muhammad Zaman Azurda chaired the session.
Speaking on the occasion, he said: “Radio discovered many voices and poets. Janbaz Kishtwari was a link between Kishtwari and Kashmir. His contribution has been written in bold letters in the musical history of the state.”
In the special session supported by Sahitya Academy, Janbaz Kishtwari’s son, Zubair spoke about his personal experiences with the legendary figure.
Noted poet, Mashal Sultanpuri credited Janbaz with the invention of ‘chalanth’ in Kashmiri music terming it as a unique contribution to the musical world.
In the special musical session dedicated to works of Janbaz, the audience was enthralled by Talib Hussain Betab, Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Ashok Kumar who sung his numbers.
Renowned writer Farooq Nazki chaired the session of essay, poetry and critical appreciation in which writings of Nisar Azam, Syed Yaqoob Dilkash and others were critically analysed and appreciated.
“I am proud that the new generation of writers and poets are putting forth their ideas brilliantly,” said Nazki in his address.
President Adbi Markaz Kamraz, Aziz Hajini in his opening remarks said, “We will be writing a monograph about Janbaz Kishtwari in 2011 through Sahitya Academy in the series ‘Makers of Indian Literature.”
“Language knows no barriers. Janbaz has connected Kashmir to Kishtwar with his art and he deserves to be remembered for all times to come,” said Secretary Adbi Markaz Kamraz, Dr Shuja’at Bukhari.
Bukhari termed construction of Sinthan road connecting Kashmir to Kishtwar as a historical step by the government “although art and language transcends such geographical barriers as well”.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kishtwar, Sajad Ahmad Kichloo said, “The language has almost died in Jammu division.” He called for concerted efforts to revive Kashmiri.
He said the government has identified land for an auditorium in Kishtwar for the promotion of the language.
On the occasion, Manshoor Banhali presented a paper on Kashmir language and Jammu region. “Kashmiri language needs to be taught in schools of Jammu region,” he asserted.
The two-day conference will be setting new resolutions for the year regarding Kashmiri language and also assessing the influence and usage of Kashmiri language in Jammu region.
