About Halq-e-Adab Hajin

Halqa-e- Adab Sonawari Hajin is an elderly literary organisation of Kashmir which has been tirelessly working for the promotion, preservation and enrichment of Kashmiri culture, language and literature.

The emergence of Halqa-i- Adab Sonawari dates seven decades back to the times of Kashmir’s famous intellectual and literary giant Prof. Mohi ud din Hajini. Gulzar Hajani, the popular mystic poet of kashmir, and Mohammad Ahsan Ahsan, the famous literary activist and poet, are believed to be the founding fathers of this famous literary amalgam. Founded in the year 1957, this organisation got finally  registered in 1968 by Registrar of Societies vide his Order No. 92 of 1968 as an approved literary & cultural organisation of Jammu and Kashmir.

 Halqa -e- Adab Sonawari being one of the oldest surviving cultural organisations of North India has rendered yeoman’s service to the promotion and preservation of culture and the progress and upliftment of Kashmiri language and literature. More than seventy genius men of letters (mostly poets) who were lost to obscurity were discovered and their works were published by the great efforts of this organisation.

This literary forum has, to its credit, the honour of publishing more than hundred books on a variety of subjects from poets and poetry to society, culture, theology and heritage. More than thirty six volumes of famous literary journal “Wolreke Malar”. (The Waves of Wular) have been published so far.

Halqa-e- Adab goes a long way exploring fresh talent and provides equal opportunities to our young men and women so that they are able to exercise their creative abilities for the greater good of society. This organisation has also started work on some important research projects with regard to the promotion of Kashmiri language and culture taking on board the budding scholars of Kashmir; hence validating the fact that Halqa -i- Adab is the true custodian of Kashmiri’s cultural heritage.
